Spring Is in the Air Tonight

Michael Mann's much slept upon Miami Vice is every bit as good as the director's trademark cops and robbers crime epic, Heat. Leaner, more focused, and void of Al Pacino's clowning around crime scenes, Vice is pure procedural cool with an appropriate amount of sex appeal and car worship. I saw little of the television source material, but from what I gather, Mann's serial devolved into 80s tongue and cheek, whereas the feature maintains grit steel and designer fashion from beginning to end.
