Mouse Trap
Frequent, obsessive use of Facebook and other social media networks is not uncommon for the majority of Internet users today. Though potentially time consuming and wasteful, online communities are, for the most part, a healthy activity, allowing its participants important social interaction with friends and family otherwise impossible due to their real world proximity to one another. However, in extreme cases, such as those that involve the spending of days exploiting the 'Like' feature on Facebook, health officials believe may indicate a serious addiction, recently classified as 'Red Flag Syndrome'. The diagnosis, which takes its name from the activity notification system employed on Facebook, itself a stimulant for increased social media abuse, otherwise known as 'gateway media' among members of the popular press, is treatable. Users who suspect themselves, or others, of possessing similar behavior are being urged to contact ReSTART, a new treatment center for Internet addiction.
