Covered in Shit

P.T. Anderson's There Will Be Blood, is as complex a film as Kubrick's 2001. The opening shots of a sterile, barren landscape set the tone as the score's crescendo builds to deafening effect. We meet Daniel Plainview, alone, aping around in dark silence, mesmerized by a monolith of a different kind - untapped oil.

Years past. Religion, greed, and discovery have hurtled Plainview further west until a final crushing standoff occurs in a bleak, beige colored bowling alley. The end is really only the beginning for audiences to make sense of what the fuck just happened.

The above scene, a mock salvation, is a potent critique on a Plainview's abandonment of child in favor of want - no more relevant than the current state of affairs in Iraq, now five years long.

This is what is meant of 'go for broke cinema.'

I STILL haven't seen this movie. WTF is wrong with me?

Eagerly anticipating my first viewing.

You probably won't like it because you didn't discover it.
