Don't Give a Shit

I am endlessly fascinated with Kobe Bryant. He is a spin cycle of cocksure emotion. A man whose personality changes with the wind. He is the boy who is king, held together by incomparable talent and egotistical disregard. Except for the talent part, I can relate.

Anyway, ESPN's Ric Bucher has an insightful commentary on the NBA's ill-defined MVP award and the chances of Kobe winning the elusive prize.

Bucher goes on to make many valid points criticizing the league's reluctance to establish voting criteria and guidelines. This partly explains why the league's best player has never finished higher than third in voting. But given Kobe's epic meltdown during the off season and the Lakers accent to the top of the Western standings, voters may have no choice. After all, if LA wins the championship, how can this not be viewed as the single greatest turnaround in sports history?

But back to Bucher. I've really come to appreciate his somewhat sideline perspective of the NBA. He validates his points with reasoning and intelligence usually in the face of his colleague's opinions. Read what he says about LeBron James:

"...look, if you have a power forward's body and a point guard's handle and you have offensive freedom that no one else in the league has, you're going to have eye-popping numbers..."
