President Obama wants to replace the current fleet of federal vehicles with more fuel efficient hybrids. The proposed $600 million would come out of the president's stimulus plan. As you might expect, some Republicans are criticizing the spending calling it "wasteful". I partly agree. I suggest Obama consider allocating hybrid vehicles to teachers instead of elected officials. The repositioning will still generate manufacturing jobs and reduce energy and fuel costs as Obama intends, but more importantly it brings hybrid technology into the classroom where students can explore it from an early age.
