At first listen, Aimee Mann sounds inspirational. Inspirational in the way someone on the verge of suicide needs an extra nudge. Repeated spins, however, reveal something else entirely. Her music is layered like life: the good, the bad, the mundane. A song like "Calling it Quits" is so nuanced, killing yourself is not an option when you want to hear her sing it again and again.
