Dark Horizons reports Martin Scorsese's The Departed will be reconfigured as a television series for HBO. Scorsese, scribe William Monahan, and David Simon, creator of The Wire, will executive produce.No word on casting, but production is slated to begin this September. HBO plans to premiere the show during Fall 2009.
This is exciting news as I've exhausted my DVDs of The Sopranos and The Wire and nothing on TV interests me. The idea of Scorsese and Simon collaborating on this kind of material in this kind of format will hopefully yield a more balanced blend of entertainment and realism missing from the film.
